(label) was owned by Sammy Lane, whose main activity was in a recording studio at Hollywood, California. See also INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS, INC. It was active from 1949 to 1951 and reactivated in 1952. Lane signed Bobby Nunn to a 12-month American Federation of Musicians contract on 5 October 1949 and cut two titles, but Nunn cancelled the deal by letter dated 2 November 1949 on the basis that he had never been an American Federation of Musicians member. Lane’s subsequent court action against SAVOY RECORDS was dismissed on 10 July 1952 on the ground that Nunn’s instrumental and band services had been acquired by Lane but not Nunn’s vocal talents. International #801, released by January 1951, by Nelson Alexander, was marred by fuzzy recording. Lane was responsible for recording Pearl Traylor for Columbia; and Irlton French for Modern. Larry Newton of Derby Records bought 8 Don Byas masters from International (recorded about 1947) by December 1951. Lane reorganized the label in May 1952 with Jimmy Huff and Little David. The Jimmy Huff titles were presumably later issued as R P M #366 and 390. The Little David titles (with composer credits to: “Jones”), were reissued by R P M #371 and, as by HAPPY JOE LANE, variously by Discovery #1200 or 1201.
