(white researcher; songster; multi-instrumentalist; singer; songwriter; folklorist) was born Ethan John Victor Iova at St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada on 27 September 2000, a son of Dan Iova and Cindy Lalonde, and therefore half-Romanian and half-Canadian. He began playing piano at age 4; guitar and bass at 9; harmonica at 15; banjo at 18; and other instruments in his 20s. As a researcher and folklorist interested in many varieties of Southern Traditional Music of the USA, he has been inspired by the works of collaborators Kip Lornell, Peter Lowry, Ed Huey and Michael Hortig, and associated with Ferrum College and UNC Chapel Hill. A 2018 project related to Henry Rufe Johnson, assisted by Peter Lowry. As of 2021, he stood 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighed 220 pounds. Another special interest is Boyd Rivers, together with Ed Huey.
