(blues vocal; keyboards; homemade electric piano) is the usual stage name of Samuel Moore. He was born Samuel (Sammie) R. Moore at Rock Hill, York County, South Carolina on 17 July 1939. He worked with Bobby Plair, Sr., around 1953. He worked with Robert “Nature Boy” Montgomery at Miami, Florida. He moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1959. He went to Chicago, then worked at Waterloo, Iowa, for a year. He appeared on “Night Train”, Nashville TV, in 1965. Precisely as “IRONING BOARD” SAM Sam Moore, he recorded RAINING IN MY HEART and WHEN YOU BROUGHT ME YOU (both Holiday Inn Records #2208) at Memphis, Tennessee in 1968. He was at Los Angeles, California, about 1968-1973. As IRONING BOARD SAM, Sam recorded NON-SUPPORT (THAT WHAT THE JUDGE SAY) at Los Angeles, California in 1968 for STYLETONE RECORDS #391, reissued by LP #IGWT-001 and by ATLANTIC #2469. He recorded TREAT ME RIGHT for STYLETONE RECORDS #394 in about 1969. Sam recorded for Styletone #395 in 1971, one side being reissued in 1972 by Lamga #001. He recorded unreleased titles for his own Board label in about 1973. He moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1974. Sam recorded as SAM “IRONING BOARD” MOORE for Sansu #1000 in about 1974 or 1975, at New Orleans, Louisiana. He performed at the 1975 Jazz and Heritage Festival at New Orleans and his performance was recorded, with BABY WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO being issued by Sonet LP #SNTF 812. He again played there in 1979. Sam was present at Memphis in 1980 at the W. C. Handy Awards show. He worked at New Orleans again from 1982. He toured Europe in the 1990s. He recorded for Bob Vernon. He released “The Human Touch” (Orleans label, 1991). He was still at New Orleans in 1995. He moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 2003. By 2009, he was at Fort Mill, South Carolina. He recorded “Super Spirit”, released by Big Legal Mess in October 2015. Sam suffered a stroke several days before the album’s release. As of 2021 he had addresses at Montgomery, Alabama 36117-1540; at New Orleans, Louisiana 70127-5342; and at Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27514-3250.
