She was backed by white clarinetist Voltaire “Volly” de Faut (1904-1973) and white pianist Walter Melrose. De Faut was the son of John A. and Gertrude De Faut, who were aged 28 and 26 respectively in 1910, residing at Reading, Pennsylvania, but the family was at Chicago in 1920 and 1930.
