(theme) was first recorded by Tampa Red under the title, IT HURTS ME TOO. It has also been recorded under that title by Elmore James. Otis Spann recorded it as WHEN THINGS GO WRONG. Frank Scott stated “It Hurts Me Too” was first recorded by Tampa Red in 1940. He rerecorded it in 1949 as “When Things Go Wrong With You”, duetting with pianist Little Johnny Jones in a more contemporary style (contemporary for 1949 that is) with pretty much the same lyrics. Big Bill Broonzy recorded a solo version in the 50s with different lyrics except for the chorus and Elmore recorded it in 1957 and 1962 with new lyrics by Chief owner Mel London except for that catchy chorus. Junior Wells also recorded it for Chief in 1962 with (not surprisingly) the Mel London lyrics. The above link refers to a Sticks McGhee version – I don’t know of a version by him. Jimmy Nolen recorded a great version in 1956 using the Tampa Red lyrics.

(gospel vocal group) recorded in about April 1954 for Republic #7083 at Nashville, Tennessee. The group comprised: Gene Allison; Sanders Cooper (tenor voice); Clarence Mills; John Phillips (baritone voice); and Ben Vaughn (bass voice). They also recorded in about November 1956 for Nashboro #591, backing Lucille Barbee and Morgan Babb.

(choir) recorded for Michael #3230, possibly at Chicago, Illinois in the 1960s. Drusilla Wilson and Rhoda Wilson were featured singers, and Hall Johnson was arranger.

(gospel vocal group) is presumably a segment from the Israel Baptist Church Choir, from New Orleans) recorded at New Orleans, Louisiana in 1968, possibly for Wajo label.

(blues musician) may have been born Eugene H. Isom at Tyronza, Cross County, Arkansas in 1930, a son of Eugene Isom, Sr., and his wife Elzora. He recorded two of William French’s compositions under the credit EUGENE ISOM AND HIS VAN-GLORIANS Featuring William French (sic: VAN #45-101). Eugene died at Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Kentucky, on 25 September 1988, reportedly aged 58.

(musician) was a member of the Chicago Federation of Musicians in 1985, when he resided at Chicago, Illinois 60619. He may be of blues interest.

(alternate) is the reported credit used by R G A #114 in about 1962 for Ray Agee.
